Ethiopia has formally submitted its bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The country’s bid comes despite currently lacking the necessary number of stadiums to accommodate the tournament’s 24-team format. This presents a significant challenge, as hosting AFCON requires a minimum number of competition-ready venues. Ethiopian officials have not detailed plans to address the stadium deficit, leaving questions about potential infrastructure development. Despite this hurdle, Ethiopia is eager to showcase its football passion and organizational capabilities. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will assess all bids based on infrastructure, security, and economic impact. The decision on the host nation is expected later this year.
