A scaled model of Estonia’s planned €49.93 million electric ferry has successfully completed initial testing in Germany. The tests, conducted in Germany, assessed the vessel’s performance, and it achieved a speed of 14 knots. This exceeds the contractual requirement of 12 knots, indicating a promising start for the project. The full-scale ferry is intended to operate between the Estonian mainland and the island of Saaremaa. These early results suggest the ferry design is viable and efficient. Further testing will be conducted as development progresses, but this milestone represents a significant step towards sustainable transport in Estonia. The project aims to modernize transport links to Saaremaa.
