Grigori Kromanov’s 1979 science-fiction film, “Dead Mountaineer’s Hotel,” will be shown at the Shanghai International Film Festival in June. The Estonian film, a cult classic from the Soviet era, has been chosen for the festival’s 4K Restoration programme. This programme showcases significant films that have undergone restoration work. “Dead Mountaineer’s Hotel” will be presented alongside restored versions of well-known international films, including works by Miloš Forman, Martin Scorsese, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and David Fincher. The screening marks a key opportunity to introduce Estonian cinema to a Chinese audience. The film is known in Estonia as “Hukkunud Alpinisti hotell.” This selection highlights the growing international recognition of Estonian film heritage.
