Estonian cultural professionals are expressing discontent over the lack of increase in national cultural award sums. The awards have remained at the same level since the time of the Estonian kroon, failing to adjust for inflation or rising costs. Representatives from the sector argue the current amounts do not adequately recognize artistic achievement. This stagnation devalues the awards and diminishes their impact on recipients’ livelihoods. The community hopes for a reassessment of the award funding to reflect the current economic climate and the importance of the arts. The lack of adjustment is seen as a systemic undervaluation of creative work within Estonia.
