An escaped serval cat was recaptured in a garden in Tilburg, Netherlands, one day after fleeing its enclosure. The African-origin predator escaped from its owner’s property on Koestraat, roaming through nearby backyards and killing two chickens at a neighbor’s home. The serval was ultimately lured back with the remains of its prey – the dead chickens. Owner Achraf managed to coax the animal, named Django, back into its kennel by calling its name. The owner attributes the escape to a rusted opening in the cage, marking the second time Django has fled. Despite the incident, neighbors expressed minimal fear, noting the serval is generally harmless, while acknowledging the situation was briefly alarming; owning servals as pets became illegal in the Netherlands on July 1, 2024.
