Equity Bank Uganda is actively seeking to attract a portion of the substantial US$2.5 billion in remittances sent home by Ugandans living abroad. This influx of money, equivalent to 3.8% of Uganda’s GDP, is largely used for consumption, and the bank aims to channel it into investments. To facilitate this, Equity Bank will host a webinar on August 1st as part of its Diaspora Webinar Series. The initiative seeks to educate members of the diaspora on investment opportunities within Uganda. By encouraging investment, Equity Bank hopes to boost the Ugandan economy and provide diaspora Ugandans with avenues for wealth creation within their home country. The bank believes a greater focus on investment will yield more significant economic benefits than simple remittance spending.
