A new film by Romain Gavras critiques the perceived hypocrisy of the global elite concerning climate change efforts. The film, titled “A Kiválasztottak” (The Chosen Ones), satirizes those who advocate for saving the planet while simultaneously engaging in environmentally damaging behaviours. This includes travelling by private jet between expensive climate conferences, highlighting a disconnect between rhetoric and action. The movie aims to expose the double standards of an elite class preoccupied with appearing environmentally conscious. Gavras’ work intends to be a biting commentary on the performative activism common amongst today's leaders. The film focuses on the irony of discussing planetary salvation from positions of privilege and excess. It directly challenges the narrative often presented by those in power regarding their commitment to environmental sustainability.
