Lima police have arrested a group of individuals accused of defrauding elderly citizens through a card skimming scheme. The criminals, known as “Los Tarjeteros del Mall” (The Cardholders of the Mall), operated in various locations throughout Lima, employing a “switch” tactic to steal bank cards. This involved deceptively exchanging a victim’s card for a similar-looking one. Following the card theft, the suspects allegedly drained the victims’ bank accounts. The arrests took place in the Chorrillos district. Authorities are investigating the extent of the operation and the number of victims affected. The group’s activities specifically targeted vulnerable elderly individuals, exploiting their trust to commit financial crimes.
