Security forces in Pakistan killed eight terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, state-run Radio Pakistan reported Sunday. The deceased were identified as members of Fitna-al-Khawarij, the government’s term for terrorists linked to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. Among those killed were three key terrorist commanders, and authorities recovered foreign currency along with a significant cache of weapons and ammunition. This operation was part of the broader Azm-i-Istehkam initiative, launched in June 2024 to eliminate extremism and terrorism nationwide. Both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces' swift action in DI Khan, emphasizing national unity against terrorism. The incident follows a recent increase in terrorist activity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with a 50% rise in attacks from July to August, and a separate operation in South Waziristan district resulting in five additional terrorist deaths.
