Egypt has inaugurated Africa’s first driverless monorail system in its newly constructed administrative capital, aimed at alleviating severe traffic congestion in Cairo. The project, spearheaded by the Egyptian government, represents a significant investment in modern transportation infrastructure. The initial 56.5-kilometer East Nile route commenced operations in May, utilizing electric trains. A further 43.8-kilometer extension connecting to Giza is currently in development. Upon completion, the entire network is projected to become the world’s longest monorail system. This initiative signifies Egypt’s commitment to innovative solutions for urban mobility and sustainable development. The monorail aims to provide a faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional transportation methods.
