A member of Ecuador’s Pueblo Soberano party, Mayuli Ortega, publicly accused a fellow assembly member of challenging her to a fight during a party assembly on June 7th. Ortega, who leads Pueblo Soberano, alleges the incident occurred during a national assembly meeting. The accused assembly member, Alejandro Navarro, has denied the allegations. Additionally, the Electoral Supervision Tribunal (TSE) reported witnessing an attempted physical assault with a cane and verbal abuse during the same session. The TSE’s report corroborates a hostile environment during the assembly. No further details regarding potential disciplinary action have been released at this time. The accusations and reported incidents raise concerns about conduct within the political party.
