Two Ebola deaths have been confirmed in a refugee camp in eastern Congo, prompting concerns about a potential wider outbreak. A 60-year-old woman and her daughter died after contracting the virus in the Kpangba camp, which houses approximately 30,000 displaced people. The mother initially tested positive but evaded quarantine before succumbing to the disease, followed by her daughter a day later. The World Health Organization (WHO) has verified the cases, highlighting the vulnerability of the camp due to overcrowding and poor sanitation. Aid workers face challenges including hostility from residents and limited isolation facilities, increasing the risk of rapid transmission. Congo has recorded 676 Ebola cases and 136 deaths across three eastern provinces, with neighboring Uganda also reporting cases, though fewer in number.
