A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and Islamabad, Pakistan on Monday afternoon. The Pakistan Meteorological Department reported the quake occurred at 3:22pm, originating in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at a depth of 215 kilometers. Tremors were felt across multiple cities including Peshawar, Mansehra, and Abbottabad. Authorities have urged the public to contact emergency services, Rescue 1122, if needed. This event follows similar seismic activity in April, including a 5.7 magnitude quake and a 6.1 magnitude tremor, both also centered in the Hindu Kush region. Pakistan’s location on major tectonic plates makes it prone to frequent earthquakes and seismic movements.
