Italy is facing a growing safety crisis with e-scooters, having already recorded six fatalities linked to their use in 2026. Consumer advocacy group Assoutenti has described the situation as a “Wild West,” citing ongoing disregard for existing regulations. Despite prohibitions in certain areas, unsafe practices persist, contributing to the increasing number of accidents. Assoutenti President Melluso is urging immediate action, calling for a national dialogue involving institutions, local authorities, and e-scooter operators. The aim is to establish comprehensive rules and improve safety measures for riders and pedestrians alike. This call for collaboration highlights the need for a coordinated approach to address the escalating risks associated with e-scooter usage. The organization emphasizes that current measures are insufficient to prevent further tragedies.
