A Dutch female student society, UVSV, is launching a campaign to raise awareness about the consequences of sharing images and personal information without consent. The initiative follows the circulation of a harmful “bangalijst” – a list rating women based on alleged sexual performance – earlier in 2024, which included photos, names, and even addresses. Four members of another student society, USC, will face trial next month for their involvement in creating the list. UVSV's campaign, “Think Before You Share,” aims to discourage the unthinking forwarding of content and highlights the emotional toll on individuals whose images are shared without permission. A campaign video visually demonstrates how quickly an image can spread and the isolation felt by the subject. The society emphasizes that this is a growing problem and requires collective responsibility, with the understanding that a single click can have lasting repercussions.
