A member of the Zeeland provincial parliament, Martin Bos of the Forum for Democracy (FVD), is facing scrutiny for expending a significant portion of his allocated funds on meals. An investigation by Omroep Zeeland revealed that Bos claimed expenses for 117 meals over two years, justifying them as opportunities for political discussion. His spending on “meeting costs” far exceeded that of other factions; in 2023, he spent over €1500, while the BBB, with nine members, spent approximately €500. In 2024, Bos’s expenses rose to €10,000, dwarfing the €100 spent by another one-person faction, JA21. The King’s Commissioner, Hugo de Jonge, criticized the spending, stating the funds are intended for debate preparation and operational costs, not dining. Bos allocated 88.5% of his meeting budget to restaurant bills, including deliveries from services like Thuisbezorgd and McDonald’s, raising questions about appropriate use of public funds.
