Prosecutors have decided not to appeal the convictions related to the January 2023 robbery at the Drents Museum in the Netherlands, bringing the case to a close. Three perpetrators were each sentenced to 47 months in prison for their involvement in the theft of valuable artifacts from a Romanian heritage collection. The initial prosecution sought 44-month sentences for two defendants who cooperated with authorities by returning a portion of the stolen items. A third defendant, who did not cooperate, initially faced a 5.5-year sentence, but ultimately received the same 47-month term as the others due to the court’s inability to determine individual roles in the recovery of the jewels. Despite the recovery of most items, a gold bracelet valued at €500,000 remains missing. The prosecution is upholding prior agreements not to appeal if sentences did not deviate by more than three months from the original demands, stating that “sufficient justice has been done.” The stolen collection included the Helm of Cotofenesti, a 5th-century BC gold helmet considered a national symbol of Romania, and had an insured value of €5.7 million.
