Approximately 7,000 Dutch soldiers are currently participating in large-scale NATO readiness exercises in Lower Saxony, Germany. The drills are specifically designed to simulate potential combat scenarios observed during the war in Ukraine. A key component of the training involves the implementation of “drone tunnels” and newly established drone units, mirroring tactics employed in the ongoing conflict. This marks the first time these technologies and strategies are being utilized in Dutch military exercises. The exercises aim to enhance the Netherlands’ defensive capabilities and preparedness for a high-intensity conflict. Officials state the training is focused on countering modern warfare techniques and protecting troops on the battlefield. The drills represent a significant shift in Dutch military strategy, directly influenced by lessons learned from the situation in Ukraine.
