The Netherlands will provide materials from former gas fields, including compressors from the Groningen gas field, to Ukraine’s state oil and gas company Naftogaz to aid in the restoration of its energy sector. This support comes in response to a request from Ukraine and aims to prepare for the upcoming winter, as Russia continues targeted attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. The Dutch government also intends to expedite the delivery of gasturbines, generators, and transformers, though timelines and suppliers remain unclear. Alongside this, the Netherlands will allocate €1 million for the restoration of the historic Petsjersk Lavra monastery in Kyiv, damaged in a recent Russian attack. A multi-year agreement was signed between the Dutch and Ukrainian energy ministers, encompassing knowledge exchange and a visit to Ukraine by Dutch businesses later this year. The Netherlands has already committed €26 million to Ukraine’s energy supply this year, with further contributions planned for 2026. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy did not attend the reconstruction conference in Poland due to ongoing tensions with Poland.
