The Rhine reached its lowest recorded level last week, impacting transportation across the region. Affected routes include Doornenburg-Pannerden, Rheden-Rhederlaag (partially restricted), Druten-Dodewaard, Beuningen-Slijk-Ewijk, and Culemborg’s Liniepont. This marks a rare occurrence, with ferry operators noting they’ve previously stopped service due to high water, but never because of excessively low levels. While other regions haven’t reported widespread ferry outages, various water management measures like extraction bans and closed locks are in place. The duration of these suspensions remains uncertain, though other ferries on the IJssel River were previously halted.
