Dutch farmer organizations, under the banner of the Landbouwalliantie, are presenting an alternative to the nitrogen plans proposed by Minister of Agriculture Jaimi van Essen. The leaked plan advocates for a nitrogen threshold of 21 mol, mirroring standards used in Duitsland. It also proposes 250-meter buffer zones around nitrogen-sensitive habitats and a cessation of reliance on modelling calculations. This represents a significant shift in approach to the ongoing nitrogen crisis affecting Dutch agriculture. The Landbouwalliantie hopes their proposal will offer a viable path forward, differing substantially from the current governmental strategy. This new plan seeks a more pragmatic and less restrictive approach to nitrogen reduction. It aims to balance agricultural production with environmental concerns, referencing the Duitsland model as a successful framework.
