Severely diminished water levels at the Orlická Reservoir in the Czech Republic are revealing remnants of a village submerged during its creation. The reservoir’s water level has dropped fifteen meters this spring due to drought, exposing parts of houses and a cemetery from the previously flooded village of Červená nad Vltavou. Additionally, remnants of bunkers, including one used as a hideout for resistance fighter Miloš Blažek during WWII, have emerged. Rusty barrels found along the newly exposed shoreline have sparked concerns among locals, prompting speculation they may be linked to unsolved murders from the 1990s. Authorities are investigating, but currently have no confirmation of a connection to past crimes. The drastically low water levels highlight the impact of the ongoing drought in the region and are offering a unique glimpse into the area’s history.
