Following drone strikes on two commercial vessels in the Black Sea near Bulgaria, President Rumen Radev summoned the Russian Ambassador to Sofia to express his country’s concerns. The “HS Dignity,” sailing under the flag of Guinea-Bissau, sank approximately 31 km east of Krapets, resulting in 10 missing crew members, while six were rescued. Simultaneously, the Ukrainian-owned “Chelsea-3” was struck near Byala (33 km distant), but all 15 crew members were successfully evacuated. These incidents occurred a week after two other commercial ships in Bulgaria’s exclusive economic zone were targeted by sea and air drones; one, the “Alfa Watan,” sank, and its ten crew members (nine Syrian nationals) are presumed dead. President Radev convened an emergency meeting and voiced concerns that, despite a lack of definitive proof, Russia benefits from these events. The Russian Ambassador, Eleonora Mitrofanova, stated that the Russian Defense Ministry had no information regarding the attacks and suggested possible third-party provocations. Bulgaria, a NATO member, has discussed the attacks with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who affirmed NATO’s close collaboration with allies in the Black Sea.
