A new memoir detailing the life of Ivan Jonák, the controversial owner of the famed Discoland nightclub, is set for release. Jonák, who died in 2016, became a symbol of the Czech Republic’s turbulent transition to capitalism in the 1990s. He was convicted of orchestrating the murder of his wife, Ludvika, and gained notoriety as the country’s first “criminal celebrity.” The upcoming book, “Sex, Disco, Svoboda,” follows the success of his previous memoir, “Sex, Disco, Revoluce!” and focuses on the peak years of the Discoland Sylvie club in Prague. Published twelve years after his release from prison, the memoir promises further insight into Jonák’s life and the era he represented. The release continues to fuel public fascination with the figure and the cultural landscape of 1990s Czech Republic.
