A significant shift in payment habits is occurring among Finns as digital methods become more prevalent. While approximately 70 percent of the population still carries a wallet when leaving home, nearly 30 percent now rely entirely on digital payment options in certain situations. Almost 80 percent of Finns utilize non-cash methods for their everyday transactions. Consequently, only 41 percent of the population continues to carry physical cash. Furthermore, the perceived benefit of cash for budgeting has declined, with only 16 percent of people believing it helps manage their finances. These trends highlight a broader transition toward a cashless society in Finland.
