Diesel prices in the Netherlands have reached their lowest point in months, falling from €2.82 per liter in early March to €2.26 this week. This decrease follows a tentative agreement between the United States and Iran, fostering cautious optimism in global energy markets. Earlier this year, fuel prices surged due to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping lane. With the apparent de-escalation of conflict in the Persian Gulf, procurement prices are declining, leading to lower prices at the pump for both diesel and gasoline, though diesel has seen a more significant reduction. While gasoline prices have decreased from €2.64 to €2.45 per liter, the transport sector, heavily reliant on diesel, is particularly benefiting. Transport companies had previously implemented fuel surcharges to offset rising costs and are now adjusting those surcharges downwards, though they emphasize maintaining affordability for businesses and consumers.
