Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has implemented a four-tiered security plan to ensure peaceful and safe observance of Ashura, a significant mourning day for Muslims. The measures include surveillance via drones and CCTV cameras deployed throughout the capital, particularly along routes for traditional Tazija processions. Security personnel will focus on maintaining law and order, managing traffic flow, and providing overall public safety. The DMP announced these preparations following a security inspection at the Huseni Dalan Imambara in Old Dhaka on Tuesday. Authorities aim to prevent any disruptions during the mourning programs. This heightened security is a standard protocol for Ashura, which commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. The DMP has not specified any particular threat, but is taking preventative measures to ensure a secure environment for participants.
