Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and affiliated candidates achieved surprising success in recent Democratic primary elections, securing nominations in key districts. However, they still face the challenge of winning in the upcoming Congressional elections this fall. The election process revealed divisions between them and moderate Democrats regarding healthcare and support for Israel. According to Americanist Jiří Pondělíček, both groups currently require each other’s support. These primary results indicate a growing appeal for socialist policies within the Democratic party in the United States. The ability of these candidates to translate primary success into general election victories remains to be seen, and will likely shape the future direction of the party.
