Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled primary elections for political parties in six newly established constituencies within Delta State. These primaries will take place between June 16th and June 25th, 2026. The new constituencies are Warri South-West II, Warri North II, Aniocha North II, Ika North-East II, and Sapele II, among others. This announcement prepares the ground for candidate selection ahead of the 2027 general elections. The move follows the recent creation of these constituencies, aiming to better represent the state’s population. INEC’s timeline allows parties sufficient time to organize and conduct their internal selection processes. The commission aims to ensure a fair and transparent process for nominating candidates in these expanded electoral districts.
