Costa Rica's judicial system is facing a severe crisis due to a surge in debt collection lawsuits. Approximately 64% of all active court lawsuits in the courts are currently dedicated to debt recovery processes. The courts are strugglingC inundated with requests for seizures, notifications, and asset auctions. Many of these cases involve debts that are effectively unpayable, meaning they remain open for years. As these cases linger, they continue to accumulate interest, further burying the debtors. This systemic bottleneck slows down the administration of justice for other legal matters. The situation highlights a critical strain on the country's legal infrastructure. Consequently, the judicial system is struggling to manage the volume of financial litigation.
