Former Australian cricketer and Karachi Kings captain David Warner has been convicted and fined A$1,500 for drink-driving in Sydney, following an incident in April where he recorded a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit. Warner pleaded guilty after being apprehended while driving his family home from a social function, and attempted to switch seats with a passenger upon seeing a police breath-testing site. The court heard the offence was aggravated by the presence of children in the vehicle. Judge Clare Farnan acknowledged Warner’s unlikely chance of re-offending but emphasized the severity of drink-driving. As a result, Warner will be required to install an interlock device in his car. His lawyer argued for leniency citing media scrutiny impacting his career, but the court proceeded with conviction. Warner currently works as a commentator for Fox Sports Australia and captains the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League.
