A new database, named Avotrex, has been launched to determine the number of bird species driven to extinction by human activity. The database was presented today at the 27th Spanish Congress of Ornithology - 8th Iberian Congress, currently being held in Granada. The congress has gathered over 400 researchers from Portugal and Spain. Avotrex aims to provide a comprehensive record of avian extinctions linked to human actions, aiding in conservation efforts and research. This initiative seeks to accurately quantify the impact of human activity on bird populations. Researchers anticipate the database will be a valuable tool for understanding and addressing the ongoing biodiversity crisis. The collaboration between Portuguese and Spanish scientists highlights a joint commitment to bird conservation on the Iberian Peninsula.
