Dakar is undergoing significant urban renewal as it prepares to host the 2026 Youth Olympic Games. Mayor Abass Fall recently inspected progress on several key infrastructure projects across the city. The initiatives aim to modernize Dakar, improving both its aesthetic appeal and functionality for residents. Over 5 kilometers of roads and 50,000 square meters of public spaces are currently being renovated, focusing on safety and mobility. Notable projects include the restructuring of the Gueule Tapée boulevard with new bike lanes, sports facilities, and landscaping, as well as road improvements near the Khalifa Ababacar Sall dialysis center and along the Immeuble Mariama-Terrain Sacré-Cœur axis. These renovations seek to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance accessibility, integrating with the existing Bus Rapid Transit system. The overall goal is to elevate Dakar to the standards of major global and African cities.
