Dakar will experience unprecedented traffic changes starting October 17th, ahead of the Youth Olympic Games (JOJ) scheduled from October 31st to November 13th. A plan developed by the Ministry of Land and Air Transport, the Dakar 2026 Mobility Committee, and CETUD includes 166 measures to manage traffic flow. These measures prioritize public transportation, pedestrian safety, and temporary, reversible changes. Car travel will be discouraged in favor of alternative routes and transportation options. Key areas impacted include the Iba Mar Diop complex, Tour de l’œuf-Olympic Swimming Pool site, the west Corniche, and Diamniadio Pole; fourteen critical intersections will also experience disruption. Residents are advised to plan ahead and find alternative routes to avoid congestion in these zones.
