The town of Krnov has approved a comprehensive study to enhance flood protection across the entire Opavice River basin. The project aims to mitigate future catastrophic flooding by implementing dozens of water retention features, primarily in forested areas, to slow down water runoff. Krnov will collaborate with surrounding municipalities, the Odra River Basin Authority, and Poland on the initiative. Financial support for the study is being provided by the organization People in Need. This unique project seeks a preventative, basin-wide approach to flood control, rather than reactive measures. The study’s findings will inform future infrastructure development and disaster preparedness strategies for the region. Officials hope this collaborative effort will significantly reduce the risk of recurring flood damage.
