The Labe (Elbe) Reservoir near Špindlerův Mlýn in the Czech Republic is currently almost empty due to planned dredging work. Authorities intend to remove 30,000 cubic meters of material from the 40-hectare reservoir. The unusually low water level, a result of the draining process and cold water temperatures discouraging swimming, has created a unique opportunity for the public. People are now able to walk on the reservoir bed, accessing areas normally submerged underwater. While typically used for recreation, the reservoir is currently more popular in its drained state. The draining is a temporary measure to facilitate maintenance and sediment removal. The reservoir is known for attracting only hardy swimmers due to the cold mountain water.
