The Vltava River Authority is preparing to reduce the outflow from the Orlik Dam due to an extreme hydrological drought. The water level at Orlik is currently approximately 15 meters below normal, and low inflows combined with a lack of rainfall are exacerbating the situation. Starting Friday, the authority will begin utilizing the storage space of the Slapy Reservoir to supplement the water supply. This marks the first time in the history of the Slapy Reservoir that it will be used to bolster river flow. Spokesperson Pavlína Mertl stated this unprecedented measure is necessary to manage the ongoing drought conditions. The move aims to maintain sufficient water levels downstream despite the critical shortage. This action highlights the increasing impact of climate change on water resources in the region.
