The Czech Republic commemorated the 84th anniversary of the Nazi destruction of the village of Lidice. The massacre occurred on June 10, 1942, in retaliation for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, despite the village’s lack of involvement in the act. Nazi forces murdered 173 residents of Lidice, including all the men and most of the children. Women were deported to concentration camps. The remembrance ceremony was attended by prominent Czech political figures, including Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, Senate President Miloš Vystrčil, and Finance Minister Alena Schillerová. The event serves as a solemn reminder of the brutality of the Nazi occupation and the innocent lives lost. Lidice remains a symbol of Czech suffering during World War II.
