A nationwide initiative called “Biosmršť” (Bio-Blitz) will take place in the Czech Republic from June 12th to 14th, engaging citizens in mapping invasive plant and animal species. This marks the fifth year of the event, which relies on volunteers using mobile phones to record observations of non-native species. Uniquely, this year’s Biosmršť coincides with the launch of a national awareness campaign, “Week of Invasive Species,” aiming to educate the public about the impact of these species. Participants will contribute to a broader understanding of the distribution and spread of invasive flora and fauna across the country. The data collected will be used to inform conservation efforts and management strategies. Organizers hope the combined effort will increase public awareness and encourage proactive reporting of invasive species sightings. This citizen science project provides valuable data for researchers and environmental agencies.
