The Orlik Dam in the Czech Republic has begun reducing its outflow due to extreme hydrological drought, with water levels already down 15 meters. The dam will now only release the amount of water flowing into it – approximately 15 cubic meters per second. Despite this reduction, the necessary 40 cubic meters of water per second will continue to flow into Prague via the Vltava River. To compensate for the low levels, the Vltava River Authority will historically utilize the Slapy Reservoir to supplement water flow. This marks the first time the Slapy Reservoir has been used to bolster river levels. The measure aims to maintain sufficient water supply downstream despite the ongoing drought conditions. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the drought persists.
