A 6.5-ton anchor from the Třinec, the last remaining ocean liner of the former Czechoslovak fleet, has completed a global journey and returned to its namesake city, Třinec. Rather than being preserved in a museum or recycled, the anchor will be repurposed as a prominent feature in the modernized T.G. Masaryk Square. The Třinec was the final vessel of its kind representing Czechoslovakia’s seafaring history. Its return signifies a unique opportunity for urban renewal and a connection to the city’s industrial past. Local officials decided against traditional preservation methods, opting instead for a public display that integrates the anchor into the daily life of the community. The installation is expected to become a focal point for residents and visitors alike, celebrating Třinec’s heritage.
