A proposed law concerning the funding of Czech public media is bypassing standard review procedures ahead of a scheduled government discussion on Monday. MP Josef Nerušil of the SPD party argues that a prior proposal from the Minister of Culture already underwent review and was subsequently abandoned, making a new process redundant. Pirate Party MP Kateřina Stojanová criticized the government’s approach, alleging a disregard for legal standards and a lack of commitment to expert debate. She further stated that the working group established to facilitate discussion has met only once. The delay and limited consultation have raised concerns about the transparency and quality of the legislative process surrounding public media funding. The government maintains the debate will commence upon presentation of the new proposal.
