Starting next year, individuals aged 50 and over in the Czech Republic will undergo preliminary hearing tests during routine check-ups with their general practitioners. These tests will focus on identifying potential hearing loss through questionnaires, whispered word recognition, and audiometry. If a problem is detected, patients will be referred to a specialist for further evaluation. The initiative comes as health professionals note a growing number of people experiencing vision problems – a trend highlighted on World Sight Day where eye exams were offered in numerous locations. Eye clinics, opticians, and pharmacies across the Czech Republic are reporting increased demand for vision correction. Purchasing glasses or contact lenses represents a significant financial burden for those affected, demonstrating the importance of preventative care.
