The child protection system in the Czech Republic is failing, according to Hanka Kupková, director of the Foundation for Endangered Children, which operates “Klokánky” facilities. These facilities are experiencing a severe lack of funding, resulting in insufficient staff and wages near the minimum level. The number of available places for at-risk children is inadequate, sometimes forcing them to remain in potentially harmful family situations. Kupková detailed the dire situation of traumatized children removed from their parents, often being transferred between institutions repeatedly. She expressed despair over the systemic breakdown and the inability to provide adequate care. The situation highlights a critical need for increased resources and improvements within the Czech Republic’s social and legal child protection framework.
