Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) has issued a warning regarding a new tactic employed by cybercriminals. Fraudsters are utilizing fake fraud prevention campaigns to illicitly obtain banking card details from citizens. Authorities advise the public to refrain from entering card information or making any payments on websites claiming to require a fee, even under the guise of a penalty. The MAI emphasizes that no state institution requests payment of fines through online pages. This scheme relies on deceiving individuals into believing they are securing themselves against fraud, when in reality, they are being targeted. Police are urging vigilance and caution when encountering such online campaigns. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
