A new documentary, “Married to a Cult,” reveals disturbing practices within the Unification Church, founded by Korean pastor Sun Myung Moon in the 1950s. The church, also known as Moonism, boasts millions of followers worldwide and centers around the belief that Moon was the returned Christ. The documentary features the illegitimate son of Moon detailing secret rituals performed by his father. These included arranging mass weddings between strangers and allegedly having followers consume his bodily fluids. Moon believed his mission was to create a lineage of “pure” children and save the world. The documentary explores the darker side of the movement and its controversial leader.
