Slovak and Hungarian authorities have jointly dismantled an international criminal gang involved in the illicit production and distribution of cigarettes. A coordinated raid resulted in the seizure of hundreds of thousands of cigarettes and tons of tobacco. The operation targeted a network causing significant tax revenue losses, estimated in the millions. Five individuals have been charged in connection with the illegal activity. Authorities indicate the operation represents a successful collaboration to combat cross-border crime. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the gang’s operations and identify any further accomplices. The seized goods represent a substantial blow to the illegal tobacco trade in the region.
