Croatian police have arrested four individuals suspected of deliberately starting the devastating wildfires that have swept along the Adriatic coast in recent days. Around ten fires have raged or were recently extinguished in multiple locations since Thursday. The largest blaze, near Omiš in southern Croatia, tragically resulted in one death and approximately forty injuries. Roughly two thousand people were evacuated on Friday, including around three hundred Czech tourists, due to the escalating danger. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fires, but suspect arson played a significant role. The situation highlights the vulnerability of coastal regions to wildfires, particularly during dry summer months.
