The High Court has ruled against Bersatu, Malaysia’s largest Malay-majority party, in its attempt to overturn the freezing of its bank accounts. The court determined that Bersatu failed to demonstrate evidence of abuse of power by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in initiating the freeze. The MACC initiated the action as part of an investigation into alleged misappropriation of funds received from the government during the Covid-19 pandemic. Bersatu argued the freezing was politically motivated and unlawful. The judge presiding over the case found no grounds to support these claims. This decision allows the MACC to continue its investigation and maintain control over Bersatu’s financial assets. The party may appeal the ruling.
