The High Court has adjourned the treason trial of opposition politician Dr. Kizza Besigye and co-accused Hajj Obeid Lutale. The proceedings are now scheduled to resume on July 29. This delay occurred after one of the state-funded lawyers proposed to represent the defendants requested more time. Specifically, the lawyer sought two weeks to submit his curriculum vitae for review. This will allow the accused parties to assess whether the legal counsel is suitable for their defense. The court has proposed three state advocates to handle the case. The trial continues as prosecutors move forward with disclosing evidence. The move to provide state-funded lawyers has drawn attention to the legal proceedings.
